City of Mount Vernon announces all municipal employees must be
vaccinated or undergo weekly testing''
Mount Vernon, NY – August 3, 2021 – Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard today announced all municipal employees must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination by September 7 or undergo weekly testing.
“We watched last year as COVID tore through the ranks of our public-facing employees. We now have the testing and vaccines available to beat this virus back,” said Mayor Patterson-Howard.
“Mount Vernon is on a path to recovery and its imperative that our employees and residents are protected. It is proven that vaccines work, and we must ensure that government continues to work
during this pandemic to provide for the residents of Mount Vernon.”
This order comes as COVID-19 cases have increased, due to the delta variant, three-fold in Mount Vernon over the last few weeks. Currently, the city only has a 50.4% vaccination rate (one shot).
Similar to the recent policy announced by New York City, Yonkers and New Rochelle, the City of Mount Vernon will continue following CDC guidelines on mask wearing and social distancing.
The City of Mount Vernon is also partnering with Mount Vernon Montefiore Hospital where vaccines and testing are still free to employees and residents.
