COMMISSIONER REFUSES TO BE THE CHANGE: written By Brian Harrod of Yonkers Roundup
The Yonkers Police Department Commissioner #JohnMueller Wants Over $30 / Page To Photocopy #YPD Misconduct Records
VIOLATING THE LAW: The #YonkersPD Wants A Massive Payment Of $30,815 For 1,000 Pages Of #YonkersPolice Misconduct Records Despite The Repeal Of #NewYork's Repeal Of The 50-a Law That Used To Protect The Files Of Police Misconduct.
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION: 50-a was officially repealed on June 12, 2020, one month after George Floyd was killed by former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin - yet the Yonkers PD has not turned over one record.
YONKERS: A Freedom Of Information Law (FOIL) requests, that at most should cost 25 cents / page, from organizations like Muck Rack and others have been illegally denied by the Yonkers Police Department, even though the law says the public is to get access to police disciplinary records to increase transparency within the YPD.
The FOIL laws also say that records that have already been digitized can not be charged 25 cents / page, because there is no photocopying costs in emailing these documents to members of the public and media.
Taxpayers are asking what Yonkers PBA President Keith Olson is afraid of?
is he afraid that residents will learn the truth about cover ups and wrong doings in the city of hills.
Last summer ProPublica and the New York Civil Liberties Union released 300,000 New York Police Department misconduct documents they received after FOIL requests about #NYPD officers, but the over 90% white Yonkers Police Department want to be transparent with the minority majority residents of the community they patrol.
