STATEMENT: From Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader

First, I want to thank my family, friends, and supporters for their ongoing support throughout the past six months.

From day one, I made a conscious decision to run a clean and fair campaign, focused on the issues and the people of Yonkers, I have no regrets about that choice.

I knew what we would be up against when we made the choice to stand up to the establishment - but we could have never anticipated the degree of harassment, lies, and slander that was thrown our way throughout the process - not just towards myself but towards my family, staff, and community.

As for the results yesterday, we are disappointed but undeterred. We are continuing to watch the numbers come in and we look forward to upholding the democratic process and ensuring there were no discrepancies.

That said, I want to congratulate Lakisha Collins-Bellamy on her victory and I wish her luck in the upcoming general election.

I look forward to getting back to the business with my colleagues on the city council and continuing to bring forth positive change for Yonkers.

Despite it all, we ran an excellent campaign and what's most important to me is that we did so without compromising our integrity and our values.
