Responses to previous State of the Union Addresses were given by U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley in 2020, Wisconsin Lt. Gov. and WFP national committee member Mandela Barnes in 2019, and former U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards in 2018.

Rep. Bowman's upset victory over longtime incumbent Eliot Engel was a major victory for the progressive movement in 2020. Rep. Bowman represents New York's 16th District, which includes the Northern #Bronx and parts of Westchester County, including Yonkers, New Rochelle, and Mount Vernon.

Congressman Bowman has already notched several achievements, including the introduction of the Care for All agenda, the Broadband Justice Act, and the COUP Act, and successfully fought to bring a mass COVID-19 vaccination site to Co-Op City.

Jamaal Bowman was born and raised in New York City, spending his early years in public housing and rent-controlled apartments. Rep. Bowman began his career as a crisis intervention teacher in a Bronx public school.

In 2009, Bowman founded Cornerstone Academy for Social Action, a Bronx middle school focused on unlocking the natural brilliance of all children through a holistic curriculum, where he served as principal for a decade.
