MLB pulls 2021 All-Star Game, draft from Atlanta over Georgia’s new voter suppression law

Baseball is yanking this year’s All-Star Game and draft out of Georgia after the state’s Republicans rammed through a bill making it harder to vote.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced the decision on Friday.

“Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box,” Manfred said in a statement.

The law, signed into law by Kemp last week, was a blatant response to Biden winning Georgia last year and two Democratic senators winning the state in January. The less people are able to vote, the better Republicans perform in elections, and so the party is pushing restrictive voter laws across the country to hang on to power. The restrictions target poor and Black people, who are largely seen as having delivered Democrats their key victories in the 2020 elections.
